The idea of staring at the emptiness of a white paper, canvas or plate is both exciting and petrifying. This is a ritual every artist confronts. How does one lay down the first mark, break the white surface, and transform it into one’s inner expression? In this workshop, you’ll utilize sequential drawing processes to harness your intuitive creativity, and develop into a cohesive body of work. You’ll be encouraged to experiment with techniques and materials beyond your creative comfort zone. Whatever your medium is, wherever your studio resides, you’ll be in a familiar environment but produce work that will transport you to unexpected places. You’ll be taken through an intense process of applying traditional drawing techniques, along with collage and mixed media to expand your visual ideas— both formally and conceptually. The aim is to create 100 drawings, within an extremely compressed time, to harness your intuition and spontaneity as the foundation for more elaborate, ambitious and time-committed work. This class will be completely remote as you work in the comfort of your own studio. We will come together during class time to discuss and exchange ideas about your work. Through online demonstrations and one-on-one instruction, an array of creative techniques and strategies will be employed to magically transform your own instinctive images into a cohesive suite drawings.
