2024 Summer Workshops
What does it mean to write memoir and creative nonfiction as a queer person in 2021? What silences do we sense in the archive and in ourselves? How do we tap into our personal urgency to fill up those spaces with imagination? And what does it feel like to be alive right now? We’ll think about all those questions and more, alongside all the matters of craft: voice, structure, sonics, description, polarity, openings, closing. We’ll look at your manuscript, and we’ll also look at short examples of published work. There will be time for exercises. Along the way we’ll work hard and make sure that play and seriousness share the same space.

Biography
Paul Lisicky’s six books include Later: My Life at the Edge of the World, The Narrow Door, Unbuilt Projects, and Lawnboy. His work has appeared in The Atlantic, Conjunctions, The Cut, Fence, The New York Times, Ploughshares, and elsewhere. His awards include fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, the NEA, and the Fine Arts Work Center, where he has served on the Writing Committee since 2000. He is an Associate Professor in the MFA Program at Rutgers University-Camden and lives in Brooklyn.
