2024 Summer Workshops

This class offers an opportunity to explore and photograph the diverse landscape of Outer Cape Cod. As we take trips to some of the wilder and overlooked areas of the Cape, we will consider different methods of capturing natural sites with the camera. Through a variety of different activities — experimenting with depth of field and long exposures, composition, lighting, and assemblage — we will discuss how the camera can be operated and manipulated to create innovative images of the landscape.
This class emphasizes experimentation and process. It is a supportive environment to try new techniques and is open to all levels. However, a basic understanding of your digital camera is needed, including how to set the camera to manual controls for aperture and shutter speed.
Students should bring a digital camera. A laptop and tripod would also be very useful. Most classes will involve time spent outdoors. Make sure to have comfortable clothes and shoes for walking through different environments, including sands, marshes, or woods.
Biography
Born in the United Kingdom, Adam Davies studied painting before switching to large-format photography in the late 2000s. Adam Davies received an EdM from Harvard University and an MFA from Carnegie Mellon University. He is a recipient of grants from the Vira Heinz Endowment, the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, and the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities, and has attended residencies at the Chinati Foundation, the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown and Yaddo.
