2024 Summer Workshops

Adam Davies Photographing the Landscape: Explorations in Outer Cape Cod July 19 to July 24, 2020 Tuition: $650 Workshop: 1-4pm Discipline: Photography OPEN TO ALL On-site Housing Available

“Happy are those who see beautiful things in unassuming places where others see nothing. Everything is beautiful, what matters is to know how to interpret it.” – Camille Pissarro, 1893. This class offers an opportunity to explore and photograph the diverse landscape of Outer Cape Cod. As we take trips to some of the wilder and overlooked areas of the Cape, we will consider different methods of capturing natural sites with the camera. Through a variety of different activities — experimenting with depth of field and long exposures, composition, lighting, and assemblage — we will discuss how the camera can be operated and manipulated to create innovative images of the landscape.

Students should bring a digital camera. A laptop and tripod can also be very useful. Most classes will involve time spent outdoors. Make sure to have comfortable clothes and shoes for walking through different environments, including sands, marshes, or woods.

As part of your materials fee, you will be given ten sheets of photo paper for printing. Additional sheets may be purchased from the Work Center for $1 per sheet.
