Fine Arts Work Center In Provincetown

2024 Summer Workshops

Constantine Manos The Magic Moment June 9 to June 14, 2019 Tuition: $650 Workshop: 9am-12pm Discipline: Photography OPEN TO ALL On-site Housing Available

You will learn precise techniques for photographing in the public domain unobtrusively at close range – combining people, place, and moment in unique images, each of which is a surprise. The elements of chance, time, place, and personal point of view play important roles in personal documentary photography. Basic skills in camera technique required. After an introductory lecture and portfolio review of previous work on the first day, we will go into the streets of Provincetown to search for magic moments. Your edits will be brought to class on a memory stick each morning for projection, review, and critique. This process will be repeated throughout the week. You will work with a digital camera and wide-angle lens in the 28-35mm range (full-frame equivalent) in color and b&w.

As part of your materials fee, you will be given ten sheets of photo paper for printing. Additional sheets may be purchased from the Work Center for $1 per sheet.
