Lauren Ewing Word & Place: An Installation Workshop July 30 to August 4, 2017 Tuition: $650 Workshop: 9am-12pm Discipline: OPEN TO ALL On-site Housing Available

We live in a forest of signs. Everything speaks. However, most language in the public visual realm is selling something. Have you ever wanted to put your words in a public place and if so what would they be, a poem, a rant, a quotation, a single word, or nonsense, blah, blah, blah? And where would you place these words, on a building, in the air, in a landscape, on an object, on the floor? And would they draw viewers near and hold them with a long, small text or give themselves away at a glance (think HOLLYWOOD), or would your words be secret like Michelangelo’s signature in the palm of the Pieta? What would your words be made of vinyl, light, moss, brass, sticks? We will begin by doing micro and macro site analysis, looking into ‘place’ in terms of social history and material culture as well as physical characteristics. All chosen sites will be returned to original condition after the opening date. Bring thoughts and words and a desire to make them visible.
