2023 Summer Workshops

Lauren Ewing 3D Miniature Portrait Modeling June 26 to July 1, 2016 Tuition: $650 Workshop: 9AM-Noon Discipline: OPEN TO ALL On-site Housing Available

Modeling live 3D portraits is an exercise in seeing. We will start with a quick interpretive portrait to become familiar with our tools and materials. Then we will pair off and use each other as models, or you can bring a model with you. Bring a camera to do dimensional studies which can be used in class or after class in the studio. All basic materials and a set of modeling tools will be supplied ($20 materials fee). We are using polychrome clays and will bake the pieces at the end of the class. We are using polychrome clays that are colorfast and permanent when baked. Through close observation and photo studies we will focus on total visage, details and coloration. We are using fingers, hands and traditional wooden clay modeling tools. Each student will do a quick study to become familiar with the tools and material, and then we will spend the remainder of the class learning how to do close observation in order to model a representational portrait.
