2024 Summer Workshops

Justin Torres Advanced Fiction Workshop August 11 to August 16, 2019 Tuition: $650 Workshop: 9am-12pm Discipline: Fiction ADVANCED On-site Housing Available

This course is for students who are already at work on a longer project—be that a short story collection, a novel, or some poetic hybrid of genres—and are looking for critical feedback. The workshop will be intensive; we will look at two student pieces per class (short stories or excerpts from the longer work) plus outside reading from masters like Clarice Lispector or Grace Paley. Please be prepared to read and annotate the manuscripts of your peers, and eager to share your insights. In return, I promise a thoughtful, lively class.

Please submit a 10-20 page story or excerpt from your novel, which you’d like us to discuss, to Dawn Walsh at dwalsh@fawc.org by July 29. Also, bring ten copies to the first class. Plus, and this is important, I’d like you to bring to that first class a poem (published, not your own) which could serve as epigraph to the book you are writing.
