2024 Summer Workshops

Justin Torres Advanced Fiction Workshop August 14 to August 19, 2016 Tuition: $600 Workshop: 1-4PM Discipline: Fiction BY APPLICATION ONLY On-site Housing Available

THIS WORKSHOP IS FULL

This course is for students who are already at work on a longer project—be that a short story collection, a novel, or some poetic hybrid of genres—and are looking for critical feedback. The workshop will be intensive; we will look at two student pieces per class (short stories or excerpts from the longer work) plus outside reading from masters like Clarice Lispector or Grace Paley. Please be prepared to read and annotate the manuscripts of your peers, and eager to share your insights. In return, I promise a thoughtful, lively class.

BY APPLICATION ONLY.

To apply:

This class requires a writing sample for admittance. Interested participants should submit a five page sample of your best prose (it need not be from the manuscript you will put up in workshop) in application to workshops@fawc.org prior to registering for the class. Also, include the name of a work of literature that has influenced your own project, either stylistically or thematically (just title and author). If this class is not yet full, your submission will hold your space in the workshop. You will be notified within a week of your acceptance, at which point you will need to register and make your payment via FAWC’s website.

If accepted, please come to the first class with 10 copies of a 10-20 page story or excerpt from your novel, which you’d like us to discuss. Plus, and this is important, I’d like you to bring to that first class a poem (published, not your own) which could serve as epigraph to the book you are writing.
