2023 Summer Workshops

Angela Dufresne Narrative in Contemporary Visual Art: A Multi-Discipline Workshop June 26 to July 1, 2016 Tuition: $650 Workshop: 9AM-Noon Discipline: OPEN TO ALL On-site Housing Available

This workshop will create a studio environment where we will explore contemporary attitudes of artistic production around narrative. Select the media of your choice: performance, adaptation of space through site mediation, as well as more traditional modes of production such as film/video, painting, sculpture, or photography. We will explore narrative tableaux that can/will embody personal as well as political experiences. The course will provide extensive examples highlighting how and why contemporary artists are exploring narrative. You will write a narrative that is transformed into a tangible piece of art or performance art at week’s end. Support and dialogue will be provided around each student’s “Narrative Project.” This is a fun, high energy, workshop, one that has, in a recent student’s words: “Left me breathless, forever changed, and infinitely inspired.”

Students should bring materials and resources they wish to work with on an adventurous and rigorous project.
