2024 Summer Workshops

Joanne Dugan Picture Writing: A Collaborative Workshop for Writers and Photographers July 5 to July 10, 2020 Tuition: $650 Workshop: 9am-12pm Discipline: Photography OPEN TO ALL On-site Housing Available

This highly experimental workshop invites photographers and writers to tell their stories in a new way. Students spend the week making photographs about words and writing words about photos, using their own work as prompts, as well as responding to the work of others. We will also review the practices of master artists using both text and image in books, conceptual projects and other formats as inspiration. Participants will leave with a broad understanding of how to use the form to encourage an ongoing creative practice while furthering the authentic voice. All digital camera formats are welcome, including android/iphones. Feedback is individualized so experience at all levels–both in photography and writing–is welcome. Bring a laptop for editing if available.

As part of your materials fee, you will be given ten sheets of photo paper for making prints. Additional sheets may be purchased from the Work Center for $1 per sheet.
