Amy Arbus Picturing People: Aesthetics and Narrative July 15 to July 20, 2018 Tuition: $650 Workshop: 9AM-Noon Discipline: Photography OPEN TO ALL On-site Housing Available

We are all storytellers at heart. A compelling picture essay sets the scene, introduces the characters, evokes a mood, and shows the conflict and all of its bittersweet consequences. Participants are encouraged to think about story ideas before class. Models will be provided but students can choose to photograph others. Through slide presentations and critiques we will discuss techniques for lifestyle, photojournalism, fashion and traditional portraiture. Key topics: approaching people, collaborating with them and encouraging them to feel at ease. We will cover techniques for editing, sequencing and presentation.
