2024 Summer Workshops

Revising Poems with the Poetry Editor of Persea Books Revising Poems with the Poetry Editor of Persea Books July 28 to August 2, 2019 Tuition: $650 Workshop: 1-4pm Discipline: Poetry OPEN TO ALL On-site Housing Available

This workshop is part of our Poetry Festival.

In this workshop with Persea Books Poetry Editor, Gabriel Fried, spend time with your submitted poems, working to understand (from a book editor’s perspective) their ambitions—and the payoffs and pitfalls of those ambitions. As editors, we will aspire to be the perfect combination of demanding and compassionate, insisting on transcendence from the poems even as we extend ourselves generously in reading them. Similarly, as poets, we will aim to receive editorial feedback with selfless openness without betraying our poetic convictions. While reading one another’s poetry, we will also periodically look to exemplary poems from outside the workshop by writers who may include CAConrad, Joy Harjo, Carolyn Kizer, John Murillo, Randall Mann, E. A. Robinson, Kay Ryan, Anne Sexton, and Elinor Wylie.

Please submit a manuscript of 6-8 single-sided pages of poetry Dawn Walsh at dwalsh@fawc.org by July 15.
