2024 Summer Workshops

Technique & Vision: A Poetry Workshop Technique & Vision: A Poetry Workshop August 4 to August 9, 2019 Tuition: $650 Workshop: 1-4pm Discipline: Poetry OPEN TO ALL On-site Housing Available

This workshop is part of our Poetry Festival.

In our best poems, technique and vision go hand in hand. Often it is vision which puts pressure on technique, forcing us to find new ways to approach the unsayable. However, it is also true that forming a deeper and more nuanced understanding of technique by studying the poems of others can help bring into focus that nagging unsaid or half-said piece by suggesting new ways to speak. In this workshop we will study the limits and possibilities offered by elements of technique in published poems. While you will be generating new work during the week, you should also bring along stalled poems or even journal notes, as you may want to go back into unfinished work. We will workshop these pieces-in-progress.
