Patrick Rosal The Singing Image: A Poetry Workshop August 5 to August 10, 2018 Tuition: $600 Workshop: 9am-Noon Discipline: Poetry OPEN TO ALL On-site Housing Available

This workshop is part of our 3rd Annual Poetry Festival.

We will read poems together out loud to get a sense of their sound, in fact, to be moved by their sound (of course, this is a tautology, because sound literally moves us by anvil, hammer, stirrup, cilia). We will consider the ways a poem gathers, records, composes, and transforms sensory and sensual experience by way of rhythm and repetition. How does a poem convey a singing image? This will largely be a discussion-based, generative, experimental workshop.

Patrick Rosal is the author of four books. His most recent, Brooklyn Antediluvian, was finalist for the Kingsley Tufts Award and winner of the Lenore Marshall Prize from the Academy of American Poets. He has received fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation, and the Fulbright Scholars Program. His poems have appeared in American Poetry Review, New England Review, Poetry, and Best American Poetry. He teaches at Rutgers University-Camden.
