Poetry Fellow DAVID HUTCHESON grew up in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. He received his MFA from Hunter College in 2014, and moved to Durham, NC the following year. His poetry has appeared in Ploughshares.

FICTION FELLOW FRANCES HWANG IN HERMAN AGUIRRE’S STUDIO

Second-Year Fiction Fellow FRANCES HWANG is the author of the short story collection Transparency (Back Bay Books, 2007), which won the American Academy of Arts and Letters’ Sue Kaufman Prize for First Fiction and a PEN Open Book Award.  She is the recipient of a Rona Jaffe Foundation Writers’ Award and fellowships from the Wisconsin Institute for Creative Writing, Colgate University, the MacDowell Colony, and the National Endowment for the Arts.  Her work has been read on NPR’s Selected Shorts and appeared in such publications as Best New American Voices, Glimmer Train, The New Yorker, and Tin House.  She teaches creative writing at UC Berkeley Extension.

FICTION FELLOW DAVID HOON KIM IN JACOB RIVKIN’S STUDIO

Fiction Fellow DAVID HOON KIM was educated in France and attended the Iowa Writers’ Workshop. His fiction has appeared in The New Yorker and in American Odysseys : Writings by New Americans, published by Dalkey Archive Press. He currently lives in California.

 

FICTION FELLOW GABRIEL LOUIS IN HERMAN AGUIRRE’S STUDIO

Fiction Fellow GABRIEL LOUIS grew up in Washington, D.C., has attended the Callaloo Creative Writing Workshops, and received support from the D.C. Commission on the Arts and Humanities, Atlantic Center for the Arts, Ragdale, and VCCA. He has a BA from Columbia University and an MFA from Washington University in St. Louis, where he was a Chancellor’s Fellow. His work has appeared in Subtropics, he is an associate fiction editor at Fence, and he has taught creative writing in juvenile detention facilities in New York City and D.C., where he edited a journal of student work.

 

FICTION FELLOW CHRISTA ROMANOSKY IN JENNA PIRELLO’S STUDIO

Fiction Fellow CHRISTA ROMANOSKY grew up in northern Appalachia. She received her MFA in poetry from the University of Virginia, and a B.S. and B.A. from Carnegie Mellon University. She is a 2016 recipient of a Barbara Deming Memorial Fund grant for fiction that focuses on rural female experiences.  Her writing has appeared in Glimmer Train, the Kenyon Review Online, Massachusetts Review, Crazyhorse, and elsewhere.

 

POETRY FELLOW H.R. WEBSTER IN JENNA PIRELLO’S STUDIO

Poetry Fellow H.R. WEBSTER holds an MFA from the Helen Zell Writers’ Program at the University of Michigan. While there she received a Civitas Fellowship for her work teaching poetry in Detroit Public Schools and served as an editor of the Michigan Review of Prisoner Creative Writing. Her poetry has appeared or is forthcoming in Black Warrior Review, Ninth Letter, Ecotone, Seattle Review, and The Massachusetts Review.

 

POETRY FELLOW CANDACE WILEY IN HERMAN AGUIRRE’S STUDIO

Poetry Fellow CANDACE WILEY was born in South Carolina, graduated with her B.A. from Bowie State University, an H.B.C.U. in M.D., her M.A. from Clemson University, and her M.F.A. at the University of South Carolina. She is co-founder and director of The Watering Hole, a nonprofit that creates Harlem Renaissance-style spaces in the contemporary South. She is a Callaloo Fellow and former Fulbright Fellow to San Basilio de Palenque, Colombia. Her work has appeared in Best American Poetry, 2015, Prairie Schooner, pluck!, Jasper, The New Sound, Illuminations, Electronic Corpse, and Home is Where among others.
