2024 Summer Workshops

Marie Howe Intention & Discovery: Form as Portal; Form as Path August 19 to August 24, 2018 Tuition: $600 Workshop: 9am-Noon Discipline: Poetry OPEN TO ALL On-site Housing Available

This workshop is primarily generative – although we will also discuss work as it is brought to the table. We will read a great many published poems and, inspired by them, use the perceived forms to create portals and pathways to new work. Each writer need only bring a desire to experiment, old work that she is willing to alter, and some published poems she loves.

As this workshop fills quickly with a long wait list, Marie has requested that students who have taken her workshop within the past five years (2013-2017) refrain from registering so that new students may have the opportunity to work with her. Thank you.

Marie Howe’s newest book of poems is Magdalene. She is also the author of the collections The Kingdom of Ordinary TimeWhat the Living Do and The Good Thief. She currently teaches at Sarah Lawrence College and NYU. In 2012, she was named State Poet of New York.
