2024 Summer Workshops

Carl Phillips Making Poems from Poetry August 18 to August 23, 2019 Tuition: $650 Workshop: 9am-12pm Discipline: Poetry OPEN TO ALL On-site Housing Available

All poems are made of parts. In this generative workshop, we will look at poems that I provide, examine how they work, how they turn separate parts into unified song. Why do some poems soar off the page, and others don’t? What’s the role of mystery? How to know when to leave our own poems alone? These are among the questions we’ll explore, as we write new poems each day, as well as looking at how generative strategies can also be strategies for revision.
