2023 Summer Workshops
“Happy are those who see beautiful things in unassuming places where others see nothing. Everything is beautiful, what matters is to know how to interpret it. “ -Camille Pissarro, 1893.
This class offers an opportunity to explore and photograph the diverse landscape of Outer Cape Cod. As we take trips to some of the wilder and overlooked areas of the Cape, we will consider different methods of capturing natural sites with the camera. Through a variety of different activities — experimenting with depth of field and long exposures, composition, lighting, and assemblage — we will discuss how the camera can be operated and manipulated to create innovative images of the landscape.
Please bring a digital camera. A laptop and tripod would also be very useful. Most classes will involve time spent outdoors. Make sure to have comfortable clothes and shoes for walking through different environments, including sands, marshes, or woods. As part of your materials fee, you will be given ten sheets of photo paper for making prints. Additional sheets may be purchased from the Work Center for $1 per sheet.
