2023 Summer Workshops
This workshop will focus on ways in which the white space created by stanza and line can be as important as the words it surrounds. Discussion of reading assignments will consider stanzas (couplets, tercets, one-line stanzas, and more), lines (long or short, enjambed or not), and other topics (e.g. anaphora, mid-line white space, indentation). Generative exercises based on the reading will be given each day; at the end of the week, you should have at least the beginnings of four new poems. We’ll discuss some of these in class, though you’re also invited to bring copies of unfinished or not-quite finished work for class discussion: whether new or not, your poems will be our primary focus.
